A traineeship / work experience place offers the opportunity to work somewhere for some time and thus gain knowledge and experience. It is emphatically not a job, but a learning workplace. Traineeship / work experience places are available for both people who follow a course and for people who have completed a course.

For permit holders applies that they may do a traineeship or work at a work experience location.

An asylum seeker (who does not yet have a residence permit and is still in the asylum procedure) can only do a traineeship:
• In the context of vocational training on the basis of a vocational practical training agreement, or
• In the context of the higher professional education on the basis of a traineeship agreement between the university college, the employer and the student.

In general, the following points apply to traineeships / work experience placements:
• A traineeship / work experience placement is pre-eminently focused on learning and not on work, so trainees carry out supporting activities;
• The traineeship provider provides guidance on the work floor. It is important that this guidance is focused on the learning aspect and not on production results. Trainees are not supposed to be deployed in a place that is normally occupied by an employee. Activities as a trainee / at a work experience place are not aimed at productive work that primarily generates turnover or profit. In this regard the SZW inspection carries out checks;
• The traineeship provider and the trainee draw up together a traineeship agreement in which, among other things, the learning objective is described;
• A  traineeship / work experience placement is temporary;
• A (traineeship) fee can be paid for a traineeship /work at a work experience place. The REBA will apply in this case.
